Players also have to pay an entrée fee that is about $40-$50 and it goes to the operators of the tournament. The rest of the money (the accumulated buy-in funds) goes to serve as the first, second and third prizes. In tournament of a $500 buy-in with 100 competitors the first prize would usually be about $30,000, the second one $15,000 and the third would be $5,000.
