Impress Friends and Foes: Pull Off Poker Chip Tricks

Want to impress your friends, pass time, or intimidate your opponents at a poker table in a fun way?

Poker chip tricks are skillful acts of hand and fingers on poker chips designed to entertain, amuse, puzzle, or as bluffing technique when playing poker. Poker chip tricks require sleight of hand and may take some time before you can successfully pull off a trick. Poker chip tricks run the gamut from very easy to moderate to difficult.

Mexican Jumping Chip is considered the easiest trick. In Mexican Jumping Trick, a chip from one stack is made to jump to another stick. This is done by placing the last chip of a stack on the top of another stack, hit the chip with stack from where it was taken so that the chip jumps. The player then catches on top of the stack that one used to hit the chip.

At the extreme end of the pole, there's Moon Landing. Moon Landing is considered the most difficult. This is done with a stack of chips and three chips. You hold the three chips, roll the first chip to the back, take out the middle chip and place at the back of your middle finger then toss that chip to the top of the stack of chips without making it bounce or roll.

In between these two tricks are dozens of chip tricks of relative difficulty. Regardless of their difficulty, of you want to trick like a pro, you can self-learn by watching demonstrations on video. Of course it would take practice to be able to pull a trick off without blundering.

Display of poker chip tricks by pros have been seen on the World Poker Tour, the World Series of Poker, and in movies like Rounders. In the WPT and WSOP, for instance, a trick known as shuffles is a popular act of many players. Shuffle is done by pushing together two piles of chips of equal number so as to wedge the chips of one pile between the chips of another, creating a zipper-like appearance.

Many poker chip tricks have been created by players like Steven Sowinski who did Pick, Lookout and Abduction. Anders Lundkvist has several credits to his name. This includes Twirl Flick, Bounce Back, Drifter, Lift Twirl, and Top Spin.

Because to perform poker chip tricks require skill and practice, doing them can give a player the air of a pro, of someone who is masterful not only with tricks, but with a poker game per se.
